How to write a job ad that attracts the right candidates

A vague ad drives good people away. Here's how to describe a role to attract qualified candidates — and give your recruiter the material to work with.

A clear title, not a creative one

'Growth ninja' raises a smile but no one searches for it on job boards. Use the title candidates actually type ('Full-Stack Developer', 'Recruitment Officer'). It's also what makes your ad visible in Google for Jobs.

Context before tasks

Two or three sentences about the company, the product, the team and why the role exists. Good candidates choose a project, not a task list.

Concrete missions, not an inventory

  • 5 to 7 key missions, phrased as actions
  • What the person will achieve in 6 months
  • The real stakes of the role, no fluff

The essentials, not the unicorn

Separate must-haves from nice-to-haves. An over-long requirements list rules out excellent people who would 'only' tick 80% of the boxes.

Transparency that reassures

Salary (or a range), location, remote, contract type: ads that show these get more qualified applications. On AGOON, these fields also structure your listing and its eligibility for the job board.
